The North Devon and Exmoor Autumn Walking Festival, 1st – 4th October, will feature 32 guided walks including several foodie outings linking with the Exmoor Food Festival, which takes place from 2nd – 10th October.

Planned to suit a range of abilities, the walks will vary from 10 mile, full day hikes to more gentle strolls of around 4 miles. Guides will include local enthusiasts, landowners, wardens and rangers from Exmoor National Park and two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs).

Now one of the UK's biggest walking festivals and celebrating its 10th anniversary, the North Devon & Exmoor Walking Festival is packed full ofTime to get those boots on! variety this Autumn.

Among the guided walks you can join Exmoor rangers to find a deer rut or join experts in the North Devon and Quantocks AONB's. Have fun and join a linear walk that uses the West Somerset Railway during its Autumn Steam Gala to get to Washford and walk back.

Join the Exmoor Natural History Society chairman for a close look at the local flora and fauna. Or join the owners of Hartland Abbey with their specific knowledge of that area. Two walks take in the countryside around the two SW Lakes Trust lakes with their managers.

Car free walks on Exmoor

Exmoor National Park Authority has launched two new initiatives aimed at supporting sustainable tourism on the moor in time for the busy summer period.

The first, a new website and transport guide (www.exploremoor.co.uk) makes getting around Exmoor without a car much easier and is designed to help people to explore more of the National Park using public transport and other car free means. The website provides a one stop shop offering inspiration, ideas and information for a car free, care free Exmoor.

Dunster has just been awarded ‘Walkers are Welcome’ status. This innovative community led scheme of 45 towns and villages across the country has set new standards. The scheme ensures each participating village or town has gone that ‘extra mile’ to make walkers welcome. Dunster’s reputation for visitors to enjoy the splendid walks around the village is well known. What the local businesses have done is work together with the Crown Estate, Exmoor National Park Authority and West Somerset Council to provide a host of amenities for walkers.
